The year 2020 will always remain in our memory. We are still in the middle of it, but how many (strange) things have happened? When facing a reality that we would never have imagined before us, the fears of the soul and the heart become increasingly latent.
Right now, the news is gloomy, the political fight intense, and the priorities increasingly divergent. Many are saying: there is just no way. Peace, joy, and hope have waned or gone away.
It turns out that when they are gone, we are immediately impelled to look for them at any cost since these are essential elements for human life. This is also when we realize that many things, we thought could be the answer do not have this capacity.
Where are your hope, peace, and joy?
King David long ago discovered the virtue of expressing his fears and anguish through his poems and songs. The frankness of his words brought up the depths of the soul. With us, nothing is different. We also pen our poems and songs, even though they never found a sheet of paper for that. They are vividly registered in our hearts and sometimes they echo repeatedly the words that form our perspective of tomorrow.
David, even in the face of life's challenges and difficulties, tried to align his soul with the reminder that his trust should always be in the Lord. This confidence could produce fruit for both himself and others. Psalm 40 is the perfect expression of that.
Hope (v.1) I put all my hope in the Lord; he leaned towards me and heard my cry for help.
Peace (v.2) He pulled me out of a destruction pit, a mud puddle; put my feet on a rock and secured me in a safe place.
Joy (v. 3) He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see it and fear it, and they will trust in the Lord.
What about you? Where are your hope, peace, and joy?
